Step 8: For building a 3D printer, validate the build before the benchmark

Building a 3D printer is not the same as buying one. The quality of the frame, motion system, hotend, bed leveling, and firmware determines whether you get repeatable parts or a hobby project. Before you print a benchmark cube, check squareness, belt tension, thermal runaway protection, and power supply safety.

Checkpoint: Print a calibration cube, a tolerance test, and an overhang test. Measure dimensions with calipers. If the machine can't hold ±0.2 mm on your test part, don't use it for functional prototypes. My experience is based on about 200 commercial print and packaging jobs.
