Most people ask whether it can print cards—or rather, they ask that when they should ask whether it can hold registration on both sides at volume. That’s the real issue. Here’s the nuance. HP Indigo digital printing uses liquid electrophotography—technically, it’s not an inkjet press and not a laser press. For label runs that change often, it’s hard to beat. But if your label run is 200,000 units with a simple one-color design, a different technology might produce a lower cost per label. The cheapest equipment for your mix depends on speed, coverage, and run length.

One tip from our quality logs: request a substrate compatibility test on the exact stock you plan to use, not the stocks in the HP datasheet. A stamp or coating difference on a cheap label paper can cause the ink to behave differently, and that’s the kind of thing that doesn’t show up until the label starts peeling in a warehouse.

4. Are 3D printer filament colors related to HP Indigo?

No. I get this because HP also makes 3D printers (Jet Fusion), and both are called HP. The HP Indigo 10000 is a 2D print press for paper and plastic film. It has nothing to do with filament colors for fused deposition modeling 3D printers.

If you’re looking for 3D printer filament colors, that’s a separate buying decision. You’re matching filament to your project’s function and heat requirements, not CMYK color management. 5. Can I print on vinyl paper with an inkjet printer?

Sometimes. Vinyl paper is a fuzzy term. Some printable vinyl sheets are designed for inkjet—they have an absorbent coating on top.
